AWWA's room-block warning stayed up after the block closed

AWWA's WaterSmart hotel page still warns of unauthorized room sellers after the organiser closed its hotel reservations, with one host property named for the whole block.

AWWA's alert is still on the page

American Water Works Association publishes one warning on the WaterSmart Innovations hotel and travel page. The line reads: Alert: AWWA is aware of multiple unauthorized organizations contacting attendees to solicit hotel rooms. For your protection, reserve hotel accommodations using only the link provided by AWWA.

WaterSmart ran 21 to 23 October 2026 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland. Friday 23 October was the closing day.

One property carried the whole block

AWWA named one conference hotel. It is the DoubleTree by Hilton Portland, half a mile from the convention centre on a walk of 5 to 10 minutes through the Lloyd District.

One name is the mechanism behind the alert. Every attendee who followed the organiser's route booked one address. An organisation hunting a room request had one property to imitate and one conference to name.

The page attaches the transit answer to the same property. Guests at the DoubleTree Portland receive complimentary light rail passes, which the page prints as MAC passes. The pass covers the hotel-to-hall leg, travel across Portland during the stay, and the Red Line to Portland International Airport at no cost.

MAX covers the hotel-to-hall leg in about 5 minutes across one or two stops. Trains arrive every 15 minutes or less.

What the page publishes now

The hotel line reads: Hotel reservations are now closed.

No rate, cut-off date, group code or booking link sits beside it. The organiser has shut its own route to the property.

The registration table still carries its prices. Full conference runs $595 for members and $695 for non-members on or before 21 September, then $695 and $795. Exhibits only runs $70 early and $100 regular.

The cancellation term covers the badge

AWWA's cancellation policy sits under the rate table. Cancellations arrive in writing, phone requests are refused, and a 25 percent administrative fee applies to cancellations dated by the 21 September early-bird deadline. Nothing is refunded after that date. Substitutes register through services@awwa.org.

No organiser page carries a room cancellation term. A guest who bought a reservation from a seller the organiser did not appoint holds a document from outside the published route.

What a front desk asks

Three questions settle a room request that arrives as conference business. Which property holds the reservation. Which seller took the booking. Which confirmation the guest can produce.

The alert gives the desk its reason to ask. The organiser holds no record of a booking it did not route. The property holds the only record that answers.

What stands after the close

The warning stayed published after the block closed. Anyone soliciting a WaterSmart room now names a conference whose organiser has shut its own booking route.
