Hilton and Scandic signed a multi-year development agreement on 19 October covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The companies announced it from Stockholm.
The two sides
Hilton brings the brands and the commercial reach. Scandic brings the regional platform, the operating teams and the presence it holds across the four markets. Both companies describe the deal as a set of individual development opportunities in those countries.
Copenhagen first, 2029
Scandic has signed the first property. It is a 284-room Hilton Hotels & Resorts hotel at Scanport, beside Copenhagen Airport. Scandic will operate it under a Hilton franchise, and both companies put the opening in 2029.
The hotel carries a restaurant and bar, meeting and event space, wellness amenities, a fitness area and an executive lounge overlooking the Öresund Strait. Construction has not started. The companies say work begins once the remaining conditions clear.
Helsinki is the existing base
Scandic already runs three Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties in Helsinki: Hilton Helsinki Airport, Hilton Helsinki Strand and Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa. A multi-phase refurbishment is planned at the airport hotel.
Loyalty benefits come later
Both companies will announce benefits for Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends members at a later date. They state the aim of opening the Nordics to Hilton Honors members and the world to Scandic Friends.
No terms, launch date or mechanics came with the agreement.
The demand figures behind the timing
The announcement cites 2025 guest nights: more than 70 million in Sweden, around 68 million in Denmark, more than 40 million in Norway and more than 23 million in Finland. Each figure carries a national statistics agency in the footnotes. International demand from the United States and the main European markets sits in the same paragraph.
What the two chief executives said
Chris Nassetta, president and chief executive of Hilton, called the agreement a significant milestone for Hilton in the Nordics and a clear pathway to expand its leading brands across four important markets.
Jens Mathiesen, president and chief executive of Scandic Hotels Group, said the agreement fits Scandic's long-term growth strategy. He cited the Hilton franchises Scandic already operates in Helsinki.
The announcement describes Scandic as the largest hotel company in the Nordic countries, with about 320 hotels and 68,000 rooms in operation and under development across more than 150 destinations, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. Hilton reports 28 brands, more than 9,400 properties and nearly 1.4 million rooms in 144 countries and territories.
What the announcement fixes
The deal covers four markets, carries no end date in the text and names one property. Neither company published an investment figure, a fee structure or a second hotel.
