Accor will run Freecity's build-to-rent, co-living and purpose-built student accommodation in Australia. Freecity appointed Accor as its Living Sector Management Partner under a white-label agreement.
The scope covers leasing, marketing, building operations, resident services, community programming and amenity operations. Every booking and reservation across the portfolio runs through Freecity's own consumer website and brand.
The first rental mandate beyond hotels
Accor calls the appointment its first expansion beyond hotels and serviced apartments into purpose-built rental housing. Travel Monitor scopes the same claim to Australia. Hotel Management reads it as Accor's first foray into Australian rental living.
Adrian Williams, Accor chief operating officer for the Pacific region, said the group runs more than 125 extended stay properties in the region. He called the move into the living sector a natural and highly strategic evolution.
Three Sydney student projects under construction
Freecity has three purpose-built student accommodation projects under construction at Macquarie Park, Forest Lodge and Rockdale. They total 763 units.
Freecity puts the Macquarie Park project at 528 units across 20 storeys at 169-171 Herring Road. The company states the tower will be the tallest volumetric modular construction building in Australia.
The group is also designing a 60-plus-level build-to-rent tower in Parramatta. Hotel Management reports the tower is expected to be the largest volumetric modular building in the world.
The Rouse Hill approval
Freecity holds development approval for three residential towers at 2-30 Tempus Street, Rouse Hill. Freecity's own announcement records a State Significant Development Application approved by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
The scheme carries 548 rental homes. Of those, 332 are build-to-rent apartments and 216 are co-living studios.
The site sits opposite Rouse Hill Metro station. Freecity is finalising a development application for a 2.2 hectare mixed-use precinct near Sydney Olympic Park. Hotel Management reports the precinct will carry retail, a community centre, a hotel and homes across build-to-sell and build-to-rent.
The two signatories
Lawrence Zheng, Freecity co-founder and joint chief executive, said Accor brings service-oriented management, supply chain, food and beverage and resident rewards programmes to the partnership.
Jerry Huang, Freecity co-founder and chairman, said the next generation of housing should pair the efficiency of advanced manufacturing with the service and experience of hospitality.
