The contract and the date
City College of San Francisco broke ground on the Diego Rivera Performing Arts Center on 22 January 2026. Mayor Daniel Lurie and Chancellor Kimberlee Messina attended.
The Guardsman, the college's student newspaper, reports a 181 million dollar budget from a 2020 bond measure and a scheduled finish in 2028. Rudolph and Sletten, a Tutor Perini subsidiary, holds the construction contract at 155 million dollars. Tutor Perini announced that award on 17 December 2025.
The building sits on the Ocean Campus at 50 Frida Kahlo Way, in the Ingleside district.
What the design publishes
LMN Architects leads the design. TEF Design is executive architect. The project record lists 77,000 square feet and three performance venues: a 600-seat auditorium, a 150-seat studio theatre and a 100-seat recital hall.
Three concrete volumes sit behind a lobby that carries Diego Rivera's Pan American Unity mural. The design targets LEED New Construction Gold.
The record publishes no event calendar, no ticket price and no opening hour.
The lodging ring
OpenStreetMap records 33 lodging entries inside six kilometres of the campus centre, read on 19 October 2026. The distances below are straight-line from 37.7258089, -122.4503853.
Mission Inn San Francisco is nearest at 1,645 metres, tagged as a motel. Alpine Inn on Carter Street sits at 2,985 metres. A hostel and Noe's Nest, a guest house on Guerrero Street, follow at 3,724 and 3,731 metres. Royal Palace Inn Motel sits at 3,887 metres.
Hotel Castro at 4,083 metres is the nearest entry tagged hotel. Crystal Hotel on Mission Street sits at 4,098 metres. Hampton on Junipero Serra Boulevard, Mylo Hotel, El Capitan Hotel and Mirage Inn & Suites fall between 4.3 and 4.7 kilometres.
OpenStreetMap tagging is incomplete, so read the count as a floor.
What the hall adds to a hotel week
A 600-seat house produces 600 arrivals before a curtain and 600 departures after it. The hall also caps a single night's attendance inside the district.
Three groups produce the room nights. The out-of-town family at a student performance. The visiting company on a run of dates. The donor group that books a reception around a show.
A run fills consecutive nights. A single concert fills one. No published document covers the performance calendar, so an owner prices both shapes.
What the record does not publish
The college publishes no rental rate, no outside-booking policy and no booking contact.
No document names a crew count, a contractor lodging arrangement or a construction phase calendar. No document names a load-in door width, a dock height or a house crew call.
What an owner tracks until handover
Four documents answer the room-night question. Ask for the event calendar for the first academic year of operation, the outside-booking policy with its rate schedule, the parking and coach set-down plan for event nights, and the transit plan for the stations inside 650 metres.
The geography supports the last request. Muni Metro's City College station sits 320 metres from the campus centre. Balboa Park, served by BART and Muni, sits 550 metres out. Interstate 280 runs 460 metres from the centre, with ramps at 290 to 420 metres, so a coach arriving from the airport or the Peninsula reaches the campus from that freeway.
Three measurements belong in the file before a block is quoted. Weekday occupancy by rate mix. The midweek group enquiries you decline. The city's traffic notices for Frida Kahlo Way, because a closed lane changes a shuttle route.
