Treasure Island Ferry Hub Moves Its End Date to Fall 2026

The SFCTA project page now reads Fall 2026 for the transit shelters and public restrooms, against Summer 2026 in June, with the state share listed at $1.6 million.

The Treasure Island ferry terminal build has a new end date. The San Francisco County Transportation Authority's project page now reads Fall 2026 for completion. In June it read Summer 2026.

Work started in Fall 2025. The scope is new transit shelters and public restrooms at the southwest corner of the island, where the causeway meets Yerba Buena Island.

Who pays

A $3 million Federal Highway Administration grant and a state Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities grant pay the bill. The authority now lists the state share at $1.6 million. The June capture read $1 million.

The agency awarded construction to Thompson Builders Corporation at $3,047,000, with a $152,350 contingency for a total allotment of $3,199,350. Thompson announced the start of work on 23 January 2026.

What the corner carries

The hub holds the ferry terminal, a public plaza, and bus stops for Muni plus the future island shuttle and East Bay services. The shelters and restrooms sit on top of that.

Muni route 25 runs from the island to the Salesforce Transit Center every 20 minutes. The ferry runs seven days a week at $5 a ride, with 14 weekday departures each way and a last island sailing at 8:00 pm.

The district around the corner carries an entitlement of up to 500 hotel rooms across the island pair.

What to watch

Three items. A completion notice from the authority or the Treasure Island Development Authority. A shelter count, which the bid documents imply at two locations and never state as a number. A ferry-side service change, which would be the visible sign that the corner has opened.

The record carries the money, the contractor and the date. The date has moved once.
