Forty-four hotels, sixteen gone
AGU26 runs 7 to 11 December 2026 at Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street. The American Geophysical Union puts the meeting at more than 24,000 attendees in its press release of 1 September 2026.
The housing block lists 44 hotels. Rates start at $199 at Hotel Fusion and reach $295 at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. Sixteen of the 44 were sold out when the block was read on 16 October 2026.
A band that runs to Fisherman's Wharf
W San Francisco sits 0.1 miles from the hall. Three properties sit inside a quarter mile, 13 inside half a mile and 33 inside a mile. The band ends at 2.5 miles with Hotel Riu Plaza and Hotel Zephyr Fisherman's Wharf. The median property sits 0.7 miles out.
Moscone's own FAQ counts more than 20,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the building.
The room the house holds
Bookings close 19 November 2026, 18 days before the 7 December arrival. AGU's release states the block may fill before that date. A hotel that holds a room to 19 November carries it through a window it could have sold at market.
December is the cheap month in this city. Engine prices San Francisco at $165 a night across 3.1 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026, on par rates. December averages $129, 22 percent under the city average, and November sits at $147 against $197 in March. Engine puts the gap between its cheapest and priciest months at 35 percent and ranks San Francisco 18 of 50 markets, 11 percent above the $148 median.
The press that cannot walk in
Media registration runs until Friday 11 December. AGU requires eligible press to register through the online portal before arrival, and states that "walk-in press registration will not be available on site in San Francisco". The on-site press room opens 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific, Monday to Thursday, and closes at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. A press event schedule arrives in November.
Two hotels carry the sessions
AGU's release names two session venues, the San Francisco Marriott Marquis at 780 Mission Street and the InterContinental San Francisco at 888 Howard Street. The block places them 0.3 miles and 0.2 miles from the hall.
A December the hall has run before
Moscone's own event feed carries AGU23 on 11 to 15 December 2023 in Moscone North, South and West. Its AGU26 record dates this edition 7 to 11 December 2026 in the same three halls.
