Fever Sports Performance Center: Scope, Land Path and 2027 Opening

Pacers Sports & Entertainment released plans in January 2025 for a three-story, 108,000-square-foot training centre at 78 million dollars on the west half of the former Marion County Jail site. Groundbreaking ran 4 September 2025, the opening is set before the 2027 WNBA season, and the Ritz-Carlton tower beside it opens in early 2028 with 176 rooms.

The Project on Record

Pacers Sports & Entertainment released plans on 16 January 2025 for a 78 million dollar performance centre for the Indiana Fever in downtown Indianapolis. The release puts the building at three stories and 108,000 square feet, with construction to begin in August 2025 and an opening before the 2027 WNBA season. The team broke ground on 4 September 2025 at the former Marion County Jail I site, Axios Indianapolis reported.

Two regulation-sized courts with natural light anchor the interior programme. The release lists strength and conditioning equipment, a yoga and Pilates area, a hydration station and a full-service kitchen. The recovery space carries massage, infrared light therapy, a sauna, steam and heat studios, a float tank and multiple hydrotherapy pools. Player space covers a private outdoor courtyard, mental performance rooms, a hair and nail salon, childcare space and a podcast and content production studio. The centre adds a team store and exclusive fan experiences.

The Land Path

The release places the building on the west half of the former Marion County Jail site at the corner of Alabama and Maryland streets. The city of Indianapolis makes an intergovernmental land transfer to the Capital Improvement Board of Marion County. The CIB enters an operating agreement with a Pacers Sports & Entertainment affiliate, and the facility is donated to the CIB at the end of that term. The Pacers and Colts practice facilities also sit on CIB-owned land.

Axios reported the corner of Delaware and Maryland streets on 4 September 2025. The two published addresses disagree on the north-south street. The west half of the jail site and the block beside Gainbridge Fieldhouse are consistent across both.

The Building Team

Shiel Sexton leads construction. Populous is the architect of record. HEAPY holds the commissioning contract and records the project at 78,000,000 dollars and 108,000 square feet on its project page, with an opening before the 2027 WNBA season. The release carries no construction completion date.

The Hotel Project Beside It

Boxcar Development, an investment group led by Herb Simon and the Simon family, broke ground on the redevelopment of the former CSX Building at Pennsylvania and Georgia Streets. The project carries the first Ritz-Carlton in Indianapolis, a 15-floor tower with 176 rooms, 30 executive suites, two deluxe or hospitality suites and a Ritz-Carlton suite. The hotel adds 11,500 square feet of ballroom and meeting space, a fitness centre and spa, an outdoor terrace, a restaurant, a lobby bar and a private guest lounge. A 4,000-capacity Live Nation music venue and new retail sit in the same development. A third-floor pedestrian bridge connects the hotel to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and a two-level garage sits below. Sage Hospitality Group operates the hotel, and Marriott International holds the brand. The music venue completes in the fall of 2027 and the hotel opens in early 2028.

The Rooms to Price Against

The Indiana Convention Center facility guide records 4,721 hotel rooms connected to the centre, 7,175 rooms inside a six-block radius and 4,570 committable group rooms downtown. Visit Indy records the 143,500-square-foot convention centre expansion as a link to a new 803-room Signia by Hilton Indianapolis, with both scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.

What Has No Answer Yet

The performance centre release carries no daily staff count, no outside-group booking policy and no room-night forecast. The Ritz-Carlton figures are the developer's plans ahead of a 2028 opening.
