The bridge closes lanes every weeknight
The Golden Gate Bridge district runs overnight lane closures for the seismic retrofit. The notice dated 12 October 2026 covers Monday 12 to Friday 16 October and Monday 19 to Friday 23 October.
Work runs 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The Friday shift runs to 7:00 a.m. Saturday.
One lane stays open southbound and two stay open northbound. The bridge stays open to traffic at all times.
Monday 12 October carried no closures under Caltrans holiday restrictions. The district cancels work for weather and for holidays.
A second notice covers midday maintenance. Two southbound lanes close from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the next window runs Monday 2 to Thursday 5 November 2026.
Two decisions at the desk
The arrival leg runs northbound for a hotel on the Marin side. A guest driving from San Francisco or from the airport crosses inside two open lanes.
The departure leg runs southbound, inside one open lane.
The first decision is the hold on the arrival night. A guest crossing at 10:00 p.m. reaches the desk late, and the room sits unassigned until that guest arrives.
The second decision is the release on the departure morning. A guest who leaves at 5:00 a.m. returns the room before the standard turn, and that room can carry a same-day arrival.
Both decisions need the current notice at the desk. The district reissues the schedule weekly, and a hold built on a standing assumption of closure fails on a holiday night.
The property at the foot of the span
Cavallo Point sits at Fort Baker, at the north end of the bridge. The next cluster sits along Bridgeway in Sausalito: Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa, Hotel Sausalito and Suites, The Gables Inn and The Inn Above Tide.
Crews lower temporary access platforms and materials beneath the roadway during the closure window. The district publishes no crew headcount, no room block and no lodging contract for the job.
What the programme covers
Phase 3B retrofits the main span, both towers, the south tower pier and the fender. It reinforces 255 floor beams and installs 38 energy dissipation devices.
The district lists the phase as a 2026 to 2036 programme. Halmar International holds the first construction contract at 864 million dollars, awarded in October 2025 for about six years.
Roads and Bridges reports a second contract of about 900 million dollars over five more years. The same report puts the total above 1.8 billion dollars against an original estimate of 880 million dollars, and names a 41.3 million dollar contingency.
Where the record stops
The district publishes no corridor occupancy, average rate or revenue-per-room figure. It publishes no delay in minutes.
No alternative crossing schedule appears for the overnight window. A north-side property that promises a detour has no source for one.
The decisions that carry are the release time, the overnight desk cover, the weekly notice read and the room mix.
