Hilton Opens Clean Energy Prototype to Home2 Suites Developers

Hilton has released the Home2 Suites by Hilton Clean Energy Prototype, an optional design concept for the extended-stay brand in the United States. The company announced the prototype in New York.

Hilton describes the concept as an optional, turnkey offering for hotel owners and developers. It is the company’s first prototype designed with zero operational emissions to be made widely available to owners and developers.

The package

The prototype combines all-electric systems, renewable energy and high-efficiency building technologies. Hilton lists energy-efficient building and roofing materials, water-conscious landscaping, ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, saline pools, reusable dishware and LED lighting. The package uses an enhanced building envelope with on-site and off-site renewable energy. Hilton places the launch under its Travel with Purpose strategy.

The numbers

Hilton bases the projected savings on a modelling analysis across 13 U.S. cities. The company states that the design is expected to raise energy efficiency by 30 per cent, support higher property valuation, cut annual energy costs by 18 to 40 per cent and reduce operational carbon emissions by 440 metric tons.

Hilton attaches a condition to those figures. The range and the carbon figure are measured against a traditional Home2 Suites prototype that uses natural gas or nonrenewable grid-sourced electricity, and the company states the result depends on market conditions.

Why the brand built it

Hilton cites rising utility costs. The release states that U.S. hotel utility costs rose 28 per cent over the past five years, a figure the company attributes to the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

Talene Staab, brand leader for Home2 Suites by Hilton, tied the prototype to the brand’s approach to design. “This optional prototype represents the natural next step in that commitment,” Staab said.

Jean Garris Hand, vice president and global head of sustainability and responsible business at Hilton, said owners want a turnkey option that lowers operating expenses, improves energy efficiency and reduces emissions.

Availability

The Clean Energy Prototype is available now for new Home2 Suites builds in the United States. Hilton states the prototype is optional and the standard prototype remains available to owners and developers.

Beyond the prototype

Hilton Supply Management runs an energy procurement program across the network. Hilton states that the program helped participating owners save approximately 17 per cent on energy costs in 2025 and avoided more than 102,130 metric tons of CO2.

Home2 Suites counts more than 900 open hotels and nearly 750 hotels in development, according to Hilton. The brand states it holds the largest development pipeline in the United States.
