The Last Hotel Reopens in St. Louis as Hyatt Centric Downtown

The Last Hotel in St. Louis shut in March 2025 with the property in receivership. Singh Investment Group bought the 142-room building for USD 14 million and reopened it on 15 October 2026 under the Hyatt Centric flag.

The Last Hotel Reopens as Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis

Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis opens on 15 October 2026 at 1501 Washington Avenue. The 142-room property traded as The Last Hotel until it shut in March 2025. STL.News reported the opening date and an approximately USD 4 million renovation on 7 October 2026, and it credits KSDK for both.

Investors tied to Singh Investment Group of Augusta, Georgia bought the building earlier in 2026. The source report gives the price as USD 14 million, against an asking price of USD 16.5 million.

A 1909 Shoe Company Building on Washington Avenue

The building went up in 1909 for the International Shoe Company. It runs ten storeys, and it stands in the Garment District next to the City Museum. Hyatt’s own release of 30 June 2020 sets the construction year and the storey count.

The hotel conversion kept the building’s original ornate columns, metalwork and terrazzo floors. The 2020 release records leather and stitching detail through the common areas and the guest rooms. STL.News reports that the current renovation carries the same industrial references forward.

One Hundred and Forty-Two Rooms and the Suite Mix

The inventory holds 142 guest rooms. The 2019 conversion produced 47 junior suites, one Governors Suite and one Presidential Suite inside that total, per Hyatt’s 2020 release. Hyatt’s own fact sheet of 23 September 2026 lists 142 guestrooms for the property, so the count held through the change of owner.

The suite split reads two ways in the record. Hotel Management reported 49 suites at the 2020 affiliation, against the 47 in Hyatt’s own release. The total of 142 is the same in both.

Expedition Rooftop, The Link and Provisions

The rooftop keeps its pool and adds a bar and a kitchen. The hotel markets the space as Expedition Rooftop, and Hyatt describes it as seasonal, with views across downtown. The 2020 release recorded a year-round rooftop pool and lounge at the earlier affiliation.

Three food and beverage outlets sit inside the property. The Link Restaurant serves New American cooking at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Link Bar runs at lobby level. Provisions carries a 24-hour grab-and-go offer. STL.News reads those outlet names off Hyatt’s property information, and Hyatt’s fact sheet counts four outlets.

The Peters and Rand Ballrooms

The event floor carries the Peters and Rand ballrooms, which combine for gatherings of up to 250 guests. Smaller rooms take meetings, receptions and private dinners. STL.News takes the venue names and the capacity from Hyatt’s property information.

Two Hyatt-attributed figures describe the total event space, and they differ. Hyatt’s fact sheet of 23 September 2026 reads 6,886 square feet across five venues. STL.News reads 11,750 square feet across ten venues and attributes that figure to Hyatt’s property information.

The Exit That Left Award Reservations Unhonoured

The property joined The Unbound Collection by Hyatt on 30 June 2020, with HRI Lodging appointed to manage it. The affiliation ended by noon on 24 May 2021, per the source report. That report states paid reservations would still be honoured and that guests would lose Hyatt points and benefits.

The same report states that existing award reservations would not be honoured. It quotes Hyatt at the time saying that it was working to move award bookings to other Hyatt hotels and that member points and rewards are refunded in these situations. Those terms rest on the report’s own reporting, and Hyatt has published no separate account of the 2021 exit.

The Receivership Closure of March 2025

The Last Hotel shut on 6 March 2025 with the property in receivership. About 82 guests learned of the closure from a note on the door that directed them to TripAdvisor. Employees lost their jobs at the same time. The source report carries the guest figure and the note.

Maverick Hotels and Restaurants had announced in May 2024 that it had taken over management of the property. That arrangement ended before the closure. The building then sat inactive for about a year until the sale closed.

What the Property Record Carries Into the Reopening

The property returns to trading under a brand that published it before. World of Hyatt membership applies at the hotel, per Hyatt’s fact sheet. The 2021 exit cut that channel. The reopening restores it at a 142-room building that sat closed for more than a year.

The renovation budget sits near USD 4 million against a 2019 conversion that Hyatt priced at USD 54 million across 18 months. The current work updates the existing rooms inside the historic structure. STL.News describes the project as a renovation and rebranding of a historic hotel.
