Sheraton Carlsbad Resort Trades as Hotel Solea Under Autograph Collection

Azul Hospitality Group completed the Sheraton Carlsbad conversion to Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection in March 2026, with 201 rooms and 70,000-plus square feet of event space.

Azul Hospitality Group has announced the completed conversion and repositioning of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa to Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection, in Carlsbad, California. The work finished in March 2026. The release is datelined San Diego, California, October 7, 2026.

Two stamps circulate on the trade circuit. LODGING Magazine's page reads Oct. 1 under a rewritten headline. Hotel Online carries the Oct. 7 dateline. The dateline is the announcement date.

Azul Carries a Resort to a New Brand

Azul managed the operational transition and repositioning for Grand Pacific Resorts and kept the hotel trading through the process. The repositioning moved the asset from the Sheraton brand into Marriott's Autograph Collection, which sits inside Marriott Bonvoy.

Alvaro Fraile, chief executive of Azul Hospitality Group, said the project required close alignment across operations, ownership, brand standards, design, commercial strategy and guest experience.

The Owner and the Operator

Timothy Stripe, co-president of Grand Pacific Resorts, called the transformation a strategic investment in the long-term evolution of the asset and credited Azul with the operational complexity of the transition.

The relationship between the two companies extends past this building. Azul also manages two further Carlsbad hotels for Grand Pacific Resorts: The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa, with 208 rooms, and The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, with 119 rooms.

Two Hundred One Rooms and a March Debut

Hotel Solea holds 201 guestrooms and suites. The property's own opening release, dated March 4, 2026, states that the hotel opened that day as a 201-room lifestyle destination joining the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the debut on March 11, 2026, and Ranch & Coast Magazine's spring edition records March 4.

Verise, the Signature Restaurant

Verise is the signature restaurant. Its own site draws the menu from the flavours of Central Italy and runs an Aperitivo service daily from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The site credits the concept to Chef Riccardo Billotta, whose career spans Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe and New York, alongside Chef Kevin Martinez.

The kitchen lineup has moved since the opening. The San Diego Union-Tribune named Riccardo Bilotta with Jason Luke as executive chef in March 2026.

A Conference Centre Above 70,000 Square Feet

The property holds more than 70,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space. Visit Carlsbad's own directory entry describes a 70,000-square-foot conference centre with a partitionable 8,010-square-foot ballroom, more than 20 breakout spaces, and a grand lawn with an atrium and terrace.

SanDiegoVille reported the same ballroom and breakout detail in February 2026, ahead of the opening.

The Westin and the Cassara on the Same Campus

Hotel Solea shares its Carlsbad campus with The Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa, which continues to operate with access to the Ocean Pearl Spa, WestinWORKOUT fitness facilities and the 20|TWENTY restaurant.

The hotel's own site lists two resort pools and puts the resort minutes from LEGOLAND California.

What the Announcement Leaves Unstated

The release gives no street address. It sets no transaction value beyond the phrase multi-million-dollar. It names no designer, no general contractor and no date for the physical work beyond March 2026.

What the record carries is the outcome: a 201-room resort, a new brand affiliation, a named signature restaurant, and a meeting inventory above 70,000 square feet, all reported six months after the hotel opened.
