Spire Hospitality has put one leader over commercial strategy. The Irving, Texas-based management company announced the appointment of Nancy Johns as senior vice president of commercial strategy on 7 October 2026. Spire's own newsroom posted the release under an Irving dateline the same day.
What the remit covers
Johns leads commercial strategy across the Spire portfolio. The role brings revenue management, sales, marketing and distribution into closer alignment. Spire states the aim is to reduce acquisition costs, sharpen forecasting and give ownership partners clearer insight into investment and portfolio decisions. Spire describes the appointment as part of a plan to strengthen commercial leadership.
The company names four functions under the remit. They are revenue management, sales, marketing and distribution. Johns states her focus as alignment across those teams and with operations, finance and the property teams. That language comes from a quote the release carries in her name, and it sets the job at the level of the individual hotel.
The AI detail comes from the company
Spire states that Johns will integrate AI into commercial decision-making to improve speed and precision. The release names no system, no vendor and no metric behind that line. No figure measures the change, and no timeline dates it.
Richard Sandoval on what stronger performance means
Richard Sandoval, chief executive officer of Spire Hospitality, is quoted in the release. "Nancy has the experience and collaborative approach to turn a more integrated commercial strategy into stronger returns across the portfolio," he said. "Growing revenue is only part of the equation. The real goal is stronger hotel performance, and I'm confident Nancy will help our teams make smarter commercial decisions every day."
Johns on the throughline to the property
Johns gives her own reading of the job in the release. "Commercial strategy isn't about picking a lane between revenue, sales, and marketing anymore," she said. "The hotels that win are the ones where those teams move together and stay aligned with operations, finance, and the property teams making decisions every day. My focus is bringing that throughline so we can act on opportunities faster and make better decisions at the property level."
Two decades and two operators
The release gives Johns more than two decades of hospitality commercial leadership. That experience spans revenue management, marketing, digital strategy, distribution and technology. She was most recently a marketing executive at JC Resorts, where she led marketing strategy across the company's luxury resort portfolio, including Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach and Rancho Bernardo Inn. Before JC Resorts she spent nearly six years as senior vice president of integrated marketing and digital solutions at Crescent Hotels & Resorts, working across more than 120 properties. HSMAI's own profile page for Johns credits her with over twenty years in the sector.
The record beyond the appointment
Spire's own leadership page lists Johns as SVP, Commercial Strategy. It sits beside Richard Sandoval as chief executive officer, David Altshuler as chief financial officer, Shozib Khan as SVP, Strategic Asset Performance, Barbara Doucet as SVP, People and Culture, and Chris Russell as Senior Advisor. The release adds that Johns chairs the HSMAI Americas Marketing Advisory Board. HSMAI's own profile for her describes her as an active member of its Marketing Advisory Board, and the company's account of the office runs wider than the association's own wording.
The release also places her among HSMAI's Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Hospitality Sales, Marketing & Revenue Optimization in 2025. HSMAI's profile page places her among the 2024 class. Print the company's year with the company and the association's year with the association.

Spire describes itself as an owner-centric hotel management company. Its portfolio holds independent hotels and brands that include Marriott and Hilton, plus independent resorts and lifestyle hotels. Spire is part of the AWH Partners family, which also includes AWH Development, a real estate development company headquartered in New York. The company states more than 35 years of hotel operating experience. The release gives no count of the properties under management.
